He is the beloved son of Robert H. and Peggy S. (nee Nelson) Mathews of Mokena; Devoted brother of Scott W. (Julie) Mathews and Sean P. (Deborah) Mathews; and is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ross was a long-time resident of Wilmington and was the proprietor of Graystone Automotive.

He was a proud US Army Veteran and a very active volunteer and supporter of community activities. In keeping with his wishes, private cremation rites will be accorded. Several public memorial services will be announced.
