He was raised and attended schools in Pioneer, Texas. He had lived in Lubbock, Fort Worth, Sundown, Seagraves, and moved to Andrews in 1961. He had retired from Texaco and owned and operated Gibson RV Park in Andrews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers, Robert, William, Eugene, and Buck Gibson. He is survived by his 3 children, Ken Gibson and wife, Lori, of Knoxville, Tennesse, Daniece Lopez and husband, Fred, of Lubbock, and Randall Gibson; sister, Winnie O’Donnell and husband, Gene, of Waxahachie; dear friend and companion, Sandy McCluskey of Odessa; and numerous grandchildren, including Ben Gibson.
