OBITUARY Roy W. Loper Jr. September 17, 1921 – July 10, 2018 Roy W. Loper Jr., 96, of Des Plaines, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on July 10, 2018. Born September 17, 1921 in Texas, but raised mainly in Washington state, Roy had a long career working as an Occupational and Correctional therapist in various VA hospitals. His job led he, and his family, to live in Oregon, Illinois and North Carolina.

In retirement, Roy, and his wife Evelyn, enjoyed many years living in Florida. Roy also served our country in the Army during World War II, serving in Hawaii as a Corporal in Intelligence. He was very proud of his service to his country and one of his grandest adventures was later going on the Honor Flight Chicago with his son Mark.

Upon being discharged from the Army, Roy attended the University of Puget Sound where he was a 5 sport letter-man. Roy was a huge lover of sports. When he wasn’t on the golf course, he could be found in the bowling center, coaching baseball or watching any and all sports on television.

His favorite teams were the Blackhawks and Cubs. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Evelyn (nee Sedergren) Loper, dear sons Keith and Mark (Lisa Hergesheimer) Loper and his grandchildren Christopher (Dreamer), Scot (Amanda), Anthony (Keira), Zachary, Sean and Josh. Roy was also the great- grandfather of 6 and is survived by his siblings, Tom (Angie), Francis and Robert as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousin Juanita.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Louis, Myrtle, Virginia and Donald. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Roy’s name, to Honor Flight Chicago, 9701 W. Higgins Road, Suite 310, Rosemont, IL 60018.
