Roy William Figgs, Sr. October 02, 1925 – December 20, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Roy William Figgs, Sr., 93, of Westover, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 20, 2018, surrounded by his children and grandchildren at home. Born in Snow Hill on October 2, 1925, he was a son of the late George and Gertrude Dryden Figgs. His wife of 65 years, Julia Anne Ruark Figgs, preceded him in death on February 20, 2018.
Our father served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon returning, he worked over forty years as a skilled carpenter for Larry J. Causey & Sons. His walk with Christ began at an early age and he had a lifetime of service to the Lord.
He was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church and was instrumental in the ground breaking, building, and establishment of the Salisbury Campus. He was active in Children’s Ministries, drove the church bus, was Sunday School Superintendant, served on the Board of Administration, and was Trustee for many years. He had a passion for gardening and loved sharing his harvest with friends and family.
He is survived by four children, Becky Guy (Chris) of Westover, Pastor Ken Figgs (Debbie) of Harrington, DE, Esther Dixon (David) of Westover, and Roy Figgs, Jr. (Lana) of Westover; three brothers, Maurice Figgs of Westover, William Figgs (Laura) of Snow Hill, and Bobby Figgs (Retha) of Snow Hill; a sister, Linda Taylor (Danny) of Snow Hill; 11 grandchildren, Carl Anderton Jr., Julie Salvas, Chris Guy, Jr., April Perna, Kristy Figgs, Lisa Smith, Adam Stanley, Andrew Stanley, Taylor Figgs, Sarah Figgs, and Katie Figgs; 4 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Dale Twilley. Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Billman, Lola Matthews, Doris Figgs; two brothers, James and Norman Figgs; sister in-law Doris Hayman Figgs; twin great-grandchildren, Cameron and Carlee Smith; and grandson in-law Chuck Salvas. Funeral services will be Friday, December 28, 2018 at 1 PM at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church Salisbury Campus where viewings will be Thursday evening from 6-8 and Friday one hour prior to the service.
The Rev. Tom Bunting will officiate. Interment will be in Mt.
Olive Church Cemetery in Snow Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church Crisfield Campus, Children’s Ministries, 22 E. Chesapeake Avenue, Crisfield, MD 21817. Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
