Roy Milton Buell passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018, in North Bend, Washington. He went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 96 years old. Roy was born in Dallas, Oregon, to Ivan and Marguerite Buell on March 8, 1922.
He was the oldest of their 4 children, Roy, Velda, Robert and Loleta. Roy was a Corporal in the US Marines during World War II. We know that he served in the South Pacific front and spent some time in the American Samoa’s.
He married Mary Louise Quinton on November 22, 1961 in Seattle, Washington. They were married for 50 years. They adopted two children, Timothy and Wendy.
Roy was a kind, gentle man with a dry sense of humor. He would do anything for his family. Roy was a talented musician.
However, he would be the first to tell you he could not sing or carry a tune to save his life. His first love was the trumpet. He could play anything that was put in front of him including all brass instruments, woodwind instruments, guitar, ukulele, accordion and even a large pipe organ.
He loved playing music and worshiping God. During the holiday season you could find him at his local Fred Meyer entertaining customers by playing Christmas songs for The Salvation Army. Roy was a student his entire life, he never stopped learning.
It all started at a young age. He was an auto mechanic and body man. He learned morse code and talked with people all over the world with his HAM radios.
His call sign was W7MXY. He moved to Seattle in the 50’s. He attended Northwest Bible College.
While at college he met his bride, Mary Louise Quinton. He walked in to Boeing and started his employment. He learned about electronics and worked as an electronics technician.
He retired from Boeing after 30 years. He’s been building and playing on computers since the 70’s. He taught himself Spanish and was teaching himself Hebrew until his last days.
And he was ALWAYS a student of Christ. Learning and following his ways his entire life. Roy followed his Lord and Savior for nearly all of his 96 years.
You could count on Roy to be at church on Sundays. He was always involved in ministry. Whether he was teaching Sunday School, leading Royal Rangers, on the music ministry team, or visiting nursing homes when he was in his eighties!
His love for Christ was evident in his daily walk for everyone to see. Roy is lovingly remembered by his son, Timothy Buell, wife Cheri and grandchildren Jackson and Gracyn and daughter, Wendy Schmeck and husband Jason and grandchildren Megan, Zachary, JJ, Taylor, Camden and Samantha. Preceded in death his wife Mary, sister Velda, and grandson Anderson Buell.
We are honoring Roy’s life with a Military Honors Service at Tahoma National Cemetery at 9:00 AM on Friday November 16th. We will host an open house after at the home of Tim and Cheri Buell for any that would like to share stories of the life he lived.
