Ruby Maxine (Able) Rhea Prouty, age 89, died April 28th, 2019 at her home in Ponca City surrounded by her family. Mom was born on February 2, 1930 in Hominy, OK to Joseph Carl and Jewel (Marlar) Abel. She Graduated from Ponca City High School in 1948.

She has enjoyed attending the class reunions held every year. She married Robert Elmer Rhea in 1947. She had four children to this marriage, Carolyn M. Delaney and Husband Walter of Newkirk, Robert Carl Rhea, Pam Rhea Tayrien and husband Fred, of Bartlesville, OK and John Joseph Rhea.

Mom found herself alone to raise her children so she went to work finding a way to provide for us. She attended Ponca City Beauty College and would clean the school nights to cover tuition. We got to help some nights because she still needed to watch out for us.

We shared a bedroom so she could put in a shop and she slept on the sofa. We are so proud of our Mom. She Married Arnold Horinek and they had a son, Richard Andrew Horinek.

She later married Frank Kaye Prouty and for many years they operated Prouty Real Estate Rentals. She could be found getting furniture and other needed items together for families in need. Mom was always on the hunt for unusual and pretty things and loved looking and buying treasures at Estate Sales and at My Favorite Things We can’t forget the grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren mom was so proud of.

She would light up when they came by to share their lives. Kisses didn’t hurt either. She was preceded in death by her husband Kaye, two sons, Robert Carl Rhea and John Joseph Rhea, two grandsons, her parents, her siblings Charles, Sharlene, Mary and Dorothy and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, May 2nd at IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City. The family will forever be indebted to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Mom always had a big grin ready and so appreciated each and everyone ready to help her.

Casket bearers will be Chad Delaney, Walter Delaney, Billy Jack Palmer, Josh Horinek, Bryden Burgess, and Ricky Lee. For those wishing to leave condolences to the family, you may do so at WWW. Stittsworthfuneralservices.com Mom’s desire was to be able to stay home after becoming ill.

She needed to love and care for her precious KayKay and Junebug so one of the best stepped up and made that wish come true. Ricky Lee stayed night and day going over and above caring for her every need. He even kept her window birdfeeders full so she wouldn’t miss seeing her red Cardinals.

He is so much more than a caretaker, he is FAMILY!
