Obituary for Mr. Russell W. Duller Russell W. Duller was called to heaven on May 13, 2018 at the age of 94. Born May 6, 1924 in the Franklin House in Franklin Park, IL to his late parents, Alfred and Laura Duller. Beloved Husband of the late Elsie nee Ermisch for 62 years.
Cherished Dad of Janice (the late Bob) Roeder, Russell (Joann) and Dean. Adored Grandpa of Jim (Jennifer) Saad, Valerie (Tom Fafinski) Roeder, Heather (Tom) Harrington, Hillary (John) Cali, Sara Duller Courington and Adam (Jamie) Duller and Proud Great-Grandpa of Ariel (Anthony) Soltero, Matthew Saad, Elise and Bennett Courington, Grace, Lyric and Lincoln Fafinski, Austin and Declan Harrington and Annebelle and Jocelyn Duller. Brother of the late Jeanne (Edwin) Eyre, Shirley (the late John) Blanford, Doris (Arthur) Murawska, and the late Betty Eyre.
Step-Brother of siblings who have gone before him-Arnie, Bob, Gladys, Margaret, Earl and Harold. Loving Uncle to many Nieces and Nephews, and friend to many wonderful friends. He was the son-in-law of the late Andrew and Sophie Ermisch of Melrose Park.
Russell was a very proud WWII Veteran, where he served as a Sergeant and Tank Commander of the Recon Company 654/United States Army 35th Infantry Division, and he fought overseas in Europe during the war. He loved to tell his old war stories and one of the highlights of his life was to be honored on a trip to Washington, DC with Honor Flight Chicago in 2016. It was a moving and memorable experience for him that he treasured.
He was a member of the Franklin Park American Legion and the 35th Infantry Division Association. Russell was a lifelong resident of Melrose Park, Illinois where the 1900 block of 19th Avenue is nicknamed Duller Family Way in his honor. He and his wife, Elsie, also had a family summer home for many years at Lauderdale Lakes in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, where they had many friends and family members.
They loved to travel and spent many happy vacations in Hawaii, the Florida Keys, Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Michigan, Wisconsin and on cruises. In later years, he and Elsie also lived in Sun City, Huntley. After Elsie passed away, he lived at Casa San Carlo Retirement Home in Northlake, Il for 10 years, where he served as President of the Resident Council for 2 years.
Russ was the founder and President of Bankforms, Inc, a printing company in Franklin Park, for over 30 years. He was a member of the Northwest Suburban Manufacturers Association and the Illinois Bankers Association. He was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and fisherman and belonged to many golf and bowling leagues over the years and was also a longtime member of Itasca Country Club.
He also loved and excelled at construction, woodworking and carpentry, having built and remodeled 4 different homes for his family; and he enjoyed crafting beautiful lamps and dollhouses. As a sport fan, he was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan who always enjoyed watching the games and cheering on his teams. Russ was a find, wonderful, loving and respected man of integrity.
He loved to joke, laugh have fun, and tell stories. In all of the success that he achieved in long and happy life, his greatest accomplished was creating and leading a wonderful family that he adored and cherished. He was truly a family man and leader of the Duller Family.
He was a loving, devoted, protective husband, dad, grandpa and brother, and a loyal friend to so many friends that he loved. He truly leaves a legacy of love for his family, and he will be in our hearts and thoughts forever. A celebration of Russ’s life will be honored with a visitation and funeral ceremony at CARBONARA FUNERAL HOME 1515 North 25th Avenue, Melrose Park.
Visitation will be Friday May 18th from 3 until 9 P.M. Chapel Saturday May 19th at 11 A.M. Interment at Arlington Cemetery, eElmhurst. In Lieu of Flowers, please make donations to the Honor Flight Chicago in Russell’s memory. Member of the Franklin Park American Legion, North West Suburban Manufacturing and Illinois Banks Association.
