Ruth A. McMaster Edgington age 91, formerly of Mt. Blanchard, now residing in Findlay died at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay on Wed. Feb.
27, 2019. She was born on Oct. 17, 1927 in Dunkirk, to the late Ollie and Louemma (McKinley) Thomson.
She married the love of her life, Robert Jay McMaster on Apr. 14, 1949, he preceded her in death on Feb, 20, 1972. She was then happily married to one of her best friends, Robert Ray Edgington on Feb.
2, 1991, he preceded her in death on Mar. 30, 2017. Surviving are three daughters Elaine (Dennis) Fedderke, Defiance, Karen Hicks, NC, Audrey (Douglas) Hankins, Forest, a son Rodney (Sharla) McMaster, Clyde, a step son Robert (Lois) Edgington, Cairo, and a step daughter Carolyn (Dan) Anderson, St. Henry.
She has 6 grandchildren Heather Hicks, Michael (Tonia) Hicks, Melissa Hicks, Greg (Jennifer) McMaster, Kristen (Jeremiah) Genson, Emily (Chad) Klosterman, 5 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren Tasha Hicks, Hayley Prater, Jacob Hicks, Grant & Donovan McMaster, Kennelley & Atticus Genson, Keegan Klosterman, Jordin & Sophia Hicks, numerous step great grandchildren, and a sister Mary Brown. She is preceded in death by a sister Pearl Marie Weber. Mrs. Edgington was a 1945 graduate of Dunkirk High School where she was Valedictorian of her class.
She then graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1949 with a Bachelors of Education in Home Economics. She taught home economics at Forest High School and Carey Schools, and then taught elementary classes for Riverdale School District for 30 years. Mrs. Edgington was a former 4-H advisor, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and decorating for every holiday of the year.
She was a member of Wharton First Church of God, Sunday School Class #10 and the Women’s Society of Christian Service. The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Birchaven Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided Ruth, and to Bridge Hospice for their kindness and providing comfort and care the last few months. Funeral services will be held on Sat.
Mar. 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Wharton First Church of God with Pastor David Odegard officiating. Interment will follow in Wharton Richland Union Cemetery.
Visitation is Fri. Mar. 1, 2019 from 4-7:00 p.m. at CLARK SHIELDS Funeral Home and an hour before the services at the church on Saturday.
