Obituary for Ruth C. Schaffer Ruth C. Schaffer, 92, of South Annville Twp. went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 3, 2018 while in the comfort of her home. She was the wife of Dr. W. Harry Schaffer, Jr. with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Born in Osterburg, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1926, Ruth was the daughter of the late Andrew C. and Laura E. Over Curran. She was a 1943 graduate of Grantsville High School in Grantsville, MD and a 1946 graduate from the University of Maryland at the age of 19. Ruth began her career teaching Home Economics and History at DuBois High School and then became a Home Economist for Mercer County Penn State Extension.
Following her marriage to Harry and move to Lebanon County, Ruth taught briefly at South Lebanon High School and then became the lead Home Economics teacher for the Annville-Cleona School District for the next 25 years. Ruth was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Annville, serving as a part-time organist for many years, and was a founding member of the Lebanon County Home Economics Association. She graciously shared her home-making talents with friends and family at their beloved farm.
Her pride and joy for many years was her family. Surviving in addition to her husband is son Dr. Ted (Nancy) Schaffer and daughter Amy (Rev. Mark) Thomas.
Ruth will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Drs. Matthew (Julia) Schaffer and their daughter Natalie, Dr. Melanie Schaffer, Dr. Monica Schaffer, Dr. Mallory Schaffer, Joel (Kristin) Thomas, and Emily Thomas. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 E. Main Street, Annville, PA 17003 at 11:30 AM.
A visitation will be held from 10-11:30 AM prior to the service. Interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church Extended Ministry Fund.
