Obituary for Ruth Iowa Snyder Ruth I. Snyder was born June 10, 1926, to Charles H. and Shirley E. (Suverly) Burtts in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was raised in the Bismarck area in a large family. She loved to be outdoors helping her dad, to whom she was very close.

As a teenager, she worked for Will’s Nursery, a job she enjoyed, and she also worked at the Bismarck Hotel. On June 15, 1946, she married George A. Snyder, and together, they raised a family of 10 children. The family moved to McMinnville, Oregon, in 1957 and lived there for a year, then moved back to Bismarck.

In 1962, the family again moved to Oregon — this time, for good. They lived in Yamhill for six months before settling in Newberg. Ruth was a hardworking housewife and mother.

Every day, she put three hot meals on the table for her family and for anyone else who happened to stop by. She also helped care for her mother-in-law, who lived with the family off and on. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, instead looking for the good in people.

She was always willing to help her neighbors and family. She was a woman of God and had a deep concern that all of her children would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. She enjoyed old-time country music, picking wildflowers, and going to rummage sales and Newberg Thrift Shop.

She could yodel, and she loved to sing, right up until the last days of her life. Ruth resided at Marjorie House for the last year and received excellent care there. She was kept comfortable and was surrounded by loved ones when she passed away peacefully on December 27, 2018.

She was 92 years old. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1998 after 52 years of marriage; and her son, Sid. She is survived by brother Bill Burtts of North Dakota; sisters Judy Bailey of North Dakota and Arlene Auch of California; daughters Carolyn Slater (Phil), Janet Steele (Sam) and Geraldine Lefebvre (Robert); daughter-in-law Susanne Snyder; sons Roy (Bonnie), Neil, Lee, Daniel, Robert and Michael Snyder; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
