Ruth Wirkus, age 81, of Linn Grove, Iowa died on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth Marilyn Rosenbaum, the daughter of Howard and Ida (Strand) Rosenbaum was born on the Rosenbaum family farm in Union County, South Dakota, on April 21, 1937.
Ruth was one of 12 children. They were a very close family and she loved them all very much. She received her education at Jefferson, South Dakota.
Ruth was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, South Dakota. As a young girl, Ruth enjoyed cooking with her mother and grandmothers. On January 21, 1953, Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond Wirkus at Webster, South Dakota and this union was blessed with four children: Cheryl, Terry, Diane and Barb.
She and Raymond raised their four children whom they loved so very much. Ruth enjoyed having Sunday dinners with her family, babysitting the grandchildren and fishing with her husband. She will be remembered by everyone who knew her as a loving and compassionate lady.
Ruth had a very nurturing nature and was a caretaker to many people, whether she knew them well or not. She was kind to everyone. Ruth had a love for flowers and taking care of the birds in her yard, especially the hummingbirds.
She and her best friend, Mary Peterson Irwin, loved going to Riversoo Park, roller skating, dancing, and going to the Gordon Twin Drive-in Theaters. Ruth and Mary remained best friends to this day. Ruth’s life is loved, honored and cherished by her family which include her children: Cheryl(Gene) Johnson of Linn Grove, Iowa, Terry Wirkus of Spencer, Iowa, Diane Hach of Albert City, Iowa, and Barb Cox of Las Vegas, Nevada, 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, her sister: Virginia Sundleaf, her brother: Randy (Norma) Rosenbaum, a sister-in-law: Janet Rosenbaum, nieces, nephews, other extended family and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Howard and Ida Rosenbaum, her husband: Raymond, her 6 sisters: Marcella, Lavonne, Norriene, Corriene, Donna and Darlene, and her 3 brothers: Orville, Richard, and her twin brother: Russell.
