Ruth Gilmour Jerd, 91, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and true friend to many passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida. Ruth was born on October 6, 1926 to the late Agnes Gilmour Platt and Harold P. Gilmour. Survivors include her daughter Kathy Thomas (husband David), brother Philip “Buddy” Gilmour, daughter-in-law Cindy Schott; five adored grandchildren, Jason Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Amy Gomon, Mitchell Schott and Maxwell Schott; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Thomas, Brayden Thomas, Luke Gomon, Logan Gomon, Beau Thomas, Georgia Thomas and Alice Schott.
She was preceded in death by her loving son, P. Casey Schott and sister, Gloria Gilmour. Ruth retired as an Account II from the University of Cincinnati in 1991after 27 years of service. She truly loved her time spent there, and it was there she met her antiquing buddies.
Countless trips with these buddies were made around the area looking for the next bargain, especially Heisey glass. In 1995 she moved to Bowling Green, KY to be near her son Casey, wife, and two grandsons. She enjoyed holidays, special occasions and time spent with her grandsons.
In addition to the friends she made in Bowling Green, she developed a very special bond and friendship with Jonathan Jeffrey. A friendship that knew no age. Another lasting friendship was with Virginia Lowery, a college student Ruth befriended.
She became active in the First Christian Church of Bowling Green serving as secretary for her Circle. She volunteered for the historical Hobson House in Bowling Green as a docent and was interim director for a while. This was a pure joy experience for her and an opportunity to share her gift of gab to all.
Jacksonville, FL became her final place of residence in 2014 where she moved into an assisted living residence. During this time, she enjoyed many outings with her daughter (especially to the Symphony), and enjoyed time with her adult grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her wonderful spirit and unconditional love of family and friends will be missed and cherished.
