Obituary for Samuel Edward Johnson William Charles Samuel Edward Johnson was the youngest of three children born to Dorothy and William Johnson on September 29, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from South Philadelphia High School, William then enlisted in the US Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged he was employed at FlyeHymers sheet metal factory while attending school for electronics.

William, fondly known as Billy, met and married Maureen Johnson. From his union they had three children; Sam, Donell(who has preceded him in death), and Marketia Johnson. Jesus pursued Billy through his neighbor, a devoted and passionate Christian brother who often shared with him the love of Christ on a frequent basis.

Billy finally surrendered and gave his life to Christ. Led by Christ, Samuel moved to Los Angeles, California in 1976 where he began working in Ministry as the United Gospel Outreach and was employed by the Word of Life Christian Bookstore. With the love and passion of Christ, he fearlessly witnessed in some of the darkest places in LA.

While working at the bookstore he met and then later married the love of his life Gloria. The couple then started their life together living in Compton, California as a blended family. In addition to Samuel’s three children; Yolanda, Tyrone and Daryl who were joined by their youngest child Gloria E. D. Johnson-Torres.

Samuel attended the LA Bible College and Grace Community Bible College where he received his Ordination as Reverend Samuel E. Johnson. Samuel began his career as an IT specialist at the US Postal Service in Bell, California (BMC) in 1980. He received further training in computer technology, he also received numerous awards and recognitions.

Everyone the lovingly called him Mr. J. In 2011, after 29 years of service he retired. Through his love and passion for ministry, Sam always willing to share the Gospel of Christ to all whom would listen as will as through spiritual counseling and Biblical instruction. In his downtime Sam loved to study and create outline teachings of the Gospel as well as fixing computers.

If anyone had a problem with their computer they’d call on him to talk them through their computer glitches. Anyone who knew he was a “Computer Geek”! More than anything Sam loved his family especially his grandchildren and spoiled them and most importantly taught them about Christ.

Sam leaves to mourn his loving wife Gloria J. Johnson, one brother-in-law Jerry, one step-brother Frank, one step-sister Cardella, six living Children Samuel, Marketia, Yolanda, Tyrone, Daryl (Rene), and Gloria (Marc). 18 grands Shirena, Tiana, Isabella, Bayatt, Thomas, Steven, Antonio Jr, Michael, Daquan, Tracie, Tyrone III, Dai’Jon, Tyresha, Tyree, Tyrone IV, Karizma, Daryl Jr., Myka, and Kaylee. Two nephews Edward and Frank, one niece Eldita, six great-grandchildren, eight great nieces and nephews, 14 great-great nieces and nephews.
