Samuel’s Obituary Samuel S. Hunt, age 81, of Millsboro, DE formerly of Swedesboro, NJ passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, DE. Sam was born in Swedesboro, NJ on July 7, 1937; one of sixteen children born to the late Clifford V. Hunt and the late Edith (Leap) Hunt. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring in 1962 with complete disability.

Mr. Hunt worked for the carpenter union local 158 in Pennsylvania, before moving to Delaware in the early 1990’s. He attended Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes, DE. He was a member of the American Legion Post #28, and the AmVets Post #2, both in Millsboro, DE.

Sam enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by eleven siblings: Leslie, Vernon, James, Donald, Leland, Lawrence, Willard, Idabelle Huff, Ethel Schlump, Virginia Murphy, and Susan Souder. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Anita Leap Hunt, and their daughters, Lori Beth Jester (husband Marvin) of Seaford, DE and Carol L. Mellon (husband Michael) of Chesapeake, VA.

He leaves four grandchildren, Christopher Dalton (fiancée Meriah Gagnon), Kyle Dalton, Timothy Mellon (wife Caitlin), and Marlo Thompson (husband Kenneth). Sam is also survived by three great grandchildren: Roxanna, Jamison, and Samuel Dalton, a step granddaughter, Kelly Miller (husband Vern). Still with us include four of Sam’s siblings: Dorothy Coppolino, Edith Wilson, Walter Hunt, and Kenneth Hunt, with a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Sam’s name to a charity of your choice.
