OBITUARY Sara Adair Denney March 25, 1934 – December 11, 2018 Sara Adair Denney, age 84, died on Tuesday, December 11th, 2018, in the St. Martin’s in the Pines Cottages in Birmingham, Alabama. St. Martin’s is a caring and loving facility and the people that took care of her these many years did an exceptional job in tending to her needs. She was well loved and comfortable here throughout the remaining years of her life.
Sara was born in Lafayette, Alabama on March 25th, 1934 on a farm in Chambers County to Virgil and Jessie Adair and was the second oldest of four siblings, Harold Adair, Nancy Noyes-Wollinger, and Catherine Pearson. Sara is survived by two children. Her daughter Lee Ann Chambliss and her husband, William Holt Chambliss (Midlothian, VA), and her two grandsons, Walker (New York, New York – 31) and Evan Chambliss (Los Angeles, CA – 28) and her son, Patrick Adair Denney and his wife, Shannon McClure Denney (Birmingham, AL), and her granddaughter, Sara Madelyn Denney (6).
Sara lived a very fulfilling life and even after suffering her brain stroke on March 23, 2007. She inspired many with her continued determination and fight to never give up. Her family will always remember her for her laughter, beautiful touch on everything, photography, gift for design, relentless attitude, being such a wonderful friend to many that knew her and her years in the professional world.
Sara will mostly be remembered for being a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, wife and friend to all. Sara retired after 20+ years in management at Bell South followed by a career in real estate in Mt. Brook Village at Realty South prior to her injury.
She loved and was loved by all her associates. Her commitment to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the St. Stephen’s Ministry is what she loved most in her later years and her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Sara Madelyn, would often each weekend give Noni a makeover which she so loved.
The two of them had a unique and special relationship as Sara Madelyn is Sara’s namesake. She also very much loved her two grandson’s and were proud of their accomplishments. In Sara’s early years of life, she went to school at Chamber’s County High School in Milltown, Alabama and had many friends and that is where she met her late husband, Jack Talley Denney (died in 1974 at the age of 46.
) The two of them lived a very fulfilling life throughout their marriage up until Jack’s death and now they are reunited in heaven. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 3736 Montrose Road, Mountain Brook, Alabama 35213 on Saturday, December 15th with visitation at 9 AM CST and the Service at 10 AM CST with Rev. Mary Bea Sullivan officiating.
The Denney family would like to extend our eternal gratitude to the nursing staff and her doctors and would like to especially thank, Margaret Linton and Tamika Polnett. Words don’t describe the gratitude we have to them for all of their love and kindness they gave mother all of the years she was under their care. The family would like to also thank LaTonya Wheeler, Tonia Patton, Rose Mahan, Daphne Rogers and all the nurses and medical team at St. Martin’s, Rev.
Mary Bea Sullivan and Rev Dr. Mark LaGory at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and all at Compassus Hospice who helped ease mother’s pain and suffering in her final moments. There are so many to thank and so many we never knew that did so much. We love them all like family and cannot commend them enough for their professionalism and loving kindness.
