Obituary for Ms. Sarah Jane Tyree Sarah Jane Collins Tyree was born September 26, 1926 in Lowndes County, Alabama to Alvin and Fannie Collins. She was the middle child of five siblings. Two brothers and three sisters all preceded her in death.
Because of the respect and love of friends and family, she was often called: Ms. Tyree, Ms. Sarah, Momma, Momma Sarah, Mud-dear, along with Honey and Auntie (all out of love). Sarah always answered with a smile. Sarah Tyree was united in holy matrimony to Willie Gene Tyree, deceased, in Jefferson County, Alabama where they loved, lived and worked.
She worked for Jefferson County Boys Juvenile Correction Home until she retired. After retirement, Sarah moved to California to live with her son, Ozzie, but longed to be back in Alabama. So she soon decided to move back to Birmingham, Alabama to be with family and friends until she took ill and no longer could live alone.
It was at that time when she was moved to Ohio with her son, Ozzie. Sarah J. Tyree accepted Christ and was baptized at Canaan Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Lowndes County, Alabama. She later moved to Birmingham where she united with Zion Travelers Primitive Baptist Church under the pastoral leaderships of Elder Melvin E. Robinson, Jr. and Elder Elijah Weatherspoon.
Sister Tyree loved the Lord and was a loyal and faithful member of Zion Travelers Primitive Baptist Church for over 50 years. She had an abiding love and faith in God and walked with a spirit of love, dedication and meekness. She was a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board where she served for many years, until her health would no longer allow her to.
She was always willing to do all that she could for her pastor and her church. She was known and loved for her cooking that she shared not only in her occupation but also with her church family.
