OBITUARY Sarah Joy Mitchell September 27, 1994 – July 8, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Ensign Sarah Joy Mitchell died Sunday, July 8, 2018, while serving her country on maneuvers in the Red Sea. She was 23. Born in Meadowbrook, Pa.

, she was the beloved daughter of John and Betsy (McClay) Mitchell of Oakford. Sarah was a lifelong resident of Oakford. Ensign Mitchell was serving on the U.S.S. Jason Dunham.

She was a graduate of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Class of 2017. She was a member of the NROTC Corps of Cadets at the University. Sarah was a graduate of Neshaminy High School, Class of 2013.

She was an active member of Saint Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Feasterville. Sarah was an excellent athlete, playing field hockey, basketball and track and field at Neshaminy High School. She had also played softball for the L.S.A.A.

She was admired by her coaches and teammates for her skills and sportsmanship. “Joy” was an appropriate middle name for Sarah.

She claimed a special place in the hearts of so many people. She was fun and fun-loving; always up for a good time with friends and family. Sarah was looking forward to her wedding to the love of her life and best friend, Dave.

She was excited about serving as maid of honor for her older sister, Kristi, in February 2019. Sarah was an inspiration to her younger sister, Jillian and enjoyed providing older sister criticism. She grew up with many cousins who served as her early playmates and later as her “partners in crime”.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving brothers and sisters, Kevin Mitchell, Kristi Mitchell (fiancé, Adam Sweeney), John Mitchell, and Jillian Mitchell, all of Oakford. She was the beloved fiancé of David Collins of Langhorne and the devoted granddaughter of Dorothy Wiley (Dave) of Langhorne, John C. Mitchell (Gerri) of York Springs, Pa. and the late Viola McClay.

She was the loving aunt of Anthony and Miley. She is also survived by her godmother and aunt, Vicki Brennan, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to her grandmother, Sarah was preceded in death by her sister, Baby Erika.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 65 E. Street Road, Feasterville, PA 19053. Her service will be at 11 a.m. Sarah’s interment will follow in Rosedale Memorial Park in Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Pkwy.
