Sarah “Sallie”‘s Obituary Sarah “Sallie” Bohlen, 68, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center-Kansas City, following a short battle with leukemia (AML). She was born December 29, 1950 in Merced, CA, the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Seddon Fagan. She graduated from St. John’s Academy in Plattsburgh, NY and then attended the State University of NY at Plattsburgh and Green Mountain College in Vermont.

She married Paul N. Bohlen on December 12, 1970. They were stationed at Forts Rucker, Campbell, Sill, Bragg, and Leavenworth and spent a total of 8 years in Germany at Darmstadt, Fulda, and Mainz while Paul served in the U.S. Army. They settled in Kansas in 1990, living in Lansing and Lawrence before making Wamego their home since 2012.

As an Army spouse, Sallie volunteered for service in key leadership roles from company to battalion level at each duty station. These roles laid the foundation for her lifelong stewardship of helping others. Sallie was an active member of World Friendship in Manhattan, First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan, and P.E.O. Chapter G.U. of Manhattan.

Sallie was known for her strong love for God and generous love for people. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her grandkids and going to their activities, and had a special place in her heart for World Friendship and the multicultural friends she made through it.

She enjoyed taking long walks in her neighborhood and on the Konza Prairie. She expressed her love for God’s creation through her flower gardening, watching and feeding birds, and caring for her cats. She had a love in her heart for the conservation of nature, and helped by being a good steward of this earth.

She planted a native grass and wildflower prairie in her front and back yards. Her survivors include her husband Paul Bohlen, of their home; two children, Kate Hoffman and husband Keith of Clay Center, KS, David Bohlen and wife Jackie, of Wamego; two brothers, James Fagan, Merced, CA, John Fagan (Linda) of Alexandria, VA; four brother-in-laws, Craig (Gayle) of Waxhaw, NC, Carl (Kristy) of Hinesburg, VT, Philip (Tammey) of Newman, GA, Curtis (Loren) of Dobbs Ferry, NY; eight grandchildren and five nieces and eight nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 23rd and followed by a reception at the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan.
