After a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Saturnino G. Alvear, Beloved Father, Uncle, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather, passed away on January 31, 2019. He was born on November 29, 1935 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico. He was raised and educated in Mexico.

He migrated to the United States in 1954 where he worked in farming and picking cotton. On August 19, 1958, he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked 15 years as a section man until he was promoted to a Section Foreman.

He worked for 19 more years and retired in 1992 due to an injury. He took his family on many vacations that are still remembered to this day. We traveled to California, Arizona & Texas to meet our many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He made so many memories that will last our lifetimes. He was married to the love of his life, Juanita Hernandez, on October 25, 1960. They raised five children, Elsa, Yolanda, Esteban, Juanita and Rafael.

Saturnino enjoyed spending his retirement traveling with Mom. They loved to visit Reno and continued to visit with family in California, Arizona, Texas and Mexico. He is survived by his daughters & spouses, Elsa A. (David) Cordova, Yolanda (Daniel) Alvear-Macke, Juanita H. Alvear, sons Esteban H. Alvear and Rafael H. Alvear.

He is survived by brothers, Jesus, Catarino, Celso, Porfirio, Reyes, and sister Lucia. His grandchildren include Nino, Cesar, Jose, Xochitl, Ariana, Esteban Jr., Anthony, Silas, Estrella, Evaristo, Enedina, and Elizabeth, eighteen great-grandchildren of whom he was especially close to his oldest great-grandchildren Angel & Jesus. He had numerous nieces & nephews who remember him with great affection.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jose and Ruben, and sister Fidela. Viewing will be on Thursday, February 7 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with Rosary at 5:00 at Valley Hills Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park. We would like to give special thanks to Heartlinks Hospice for their help this past year. They helped guide us through this difficult time.
