Savoy Smith Jr. April 15, 1964 – April 26, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation “Reflection of Life” Savoy Smith, Jr., was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 15, 1964 to Marjorie and Savoy Smith, Sr., who both preceded him in death. Savoy grew up in a loving family where he was the youngest child born of both his parents. However, over time as marital situations changed, his immediately family grew into a much larger extended family.

Savoy was one of nine siblings in total. He attended St. Louis Public & St. Louis County Schools throughout his childhood. In 1982, he graduated from Hazelwood East Senior High School.

After high school, he went to Vocational Training Center (VTC), where he received his HVAC Certification in 1984, specializing in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating. Savoy started out working in Security at Normandy Hospital and Christian Northeast & Northwest, ensuring safety throughout the hospital grounds. After deciding that security wasn’t the best fit for him, he began working in the maintenance field.

Savoy has always been very handy, so maintenance and repair work was second nature to him. Savoy was a Maintenance Technician for several companies, including Christian Care Home, Sierra Vista Apartments, and Es Cryogenics. He also worked for St. Louis Job Corps where he performed a variety of maintenance duties as well as mentored the students on campus.

In 2001, he started working at Primm Place Apartments as a Maintenance Technician and was quickly promoted to Maintenance Supervisor. After almost 17 years of working there, Savoy decided that it was time for a change and resigned to focus on becoming an Entrepreneur. His plans were to invest in property, business vehicles and continue to live out his passion of working with his hands.

He continued to work on his own terms, completing several maintenance and repair projects in both homes and businesses. Anyone who knew Savoy, knew that he had a passion for helping people. No matter who it was or how much he had on his plate, Savoy would show up to help his friends and family time and time again.

He forged many friendships throughout his life because of his selflessness and willingness to put others first. Savoy exemplified what it meant to be a Strong, Black Man who defended and took care of his family. He was very unique with a generous soul and set great examples for those around him.

He took care of business, but also was a jokester and liked to have fun. It’s safe to say that Savoy was an extraordinary man who touched everyone whose path he crossed. His generosity and loyalty for those whom he called his family and friends will forever be missed.

Savoy was one of a kind, with a heart of gold and a beautiful spirit to say the least! Although Savoy was known and loved by many, he was also very reserved. He didn’t like to be in the spotlight much.

He enjoyed staying home listening to his jazz music and playing a number of instruments that he believed he knew how to play (we all of course knew otherwise). He loved watching television and lifetime movies with the love of his life Sara Mack, playing with his guns; beating everyone who challenged him on the pool table, bowling in several leagues throughout St. Louis; eating fish; buying items from online to restore & pile up around the house; being outside with his dog Max & spending quality time with his friends and only son, Savoy Smith III. His newest joy over the last year has been being a new Papa to his Grandbaby, Samari Smith, who he was making many plans for (including taking her to the zoo and to the fish bank to eat fish while sitting watching other people actually fish).

On April 26, 2019, the world lost an extraordinary Man, Savoy Smith, Jr., at the age of 55. While on this earth, before leaving to become a Guardian Angel, Savoy experienced unconditional love with his Soul Mate Sara; he guided his son and taught him valuable life lessons leading him to be an extraordinary young man, and he proudly watched the life adventures of his beautiful granddaughter. He was a loving Father, Companion, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Great Friend and much much more.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his only loving Son, Savoy Smith III; daughter in law, MaTaya Dukes; Granddaughter Samari Adele Smith; devoted Common Law Wife Sara Mack; Stepchildren Shalita Clark, Desire’e Futrell, Steve Futrell, Vililla Broadnax, Kennide Richie; Step-Grandchildren Ebony and Aiyanna Clark, & Amiyah Futrell; Brothers Charles Screwes (JoAnne), Robert Lee Mayes; Sisters: Jacqueline Scott, (Wayne), Yvonne Taylor; Keida Smart, Candice Harris (Jeff), Kendra Smith & Ashley Smith; Stepmother Octavia Wyman; his Best Buddy Max (The Dog); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family & lifelong friends. Savoy filled many lives with an abundance of love & he will truly be missed by all.
