Scott Alexander McRae passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2019. Scott was born on July 19, 1956, in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a son of an Air Force family, he lived in Florida, Virginia, Alaska and Colorado, learning to love the outdoors, skiing, hunting, scuba diving, riding dirt bikes and hiking.
He learned to play golf while helping at the family’s golf range in his youth. As a licensed private pilot, Scott was instrument rated. Interest in music began early.
A professional drummer from the age of 13, Scott played in a number of bands and in venues across Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Nebraska. He drummed for the band, Talk Radio, that featured the original music that he dearly loved. They recorded albums, played at the Hard Rock Café and volunteered for Musicians In Action.
For many years, Scott volunteered with Rattlesnake Fire Protection, serving on the Board of Directors as President, encouraging their modern advances to improve fire protection. With a B.S. degree from the University of Colorado (major in Minerals Land Management, minor in Physics and Energy Science) Scott served as President for Wedgcor Steel Buildings, working on domestic and international building projects. In 2004 he joined Rigid Global Buildings, becoming Manager for Builder Development as well as Sales Manager for Canada.
Scott was accredited as a LEED Green Associate with the US Green Building Council. Scott’s interest in animals meant there was always a dog, most often a Great Dane, in his household, and he owned, competed and loved to ride horses. Praying Hands Ranch of Parker spoke to his heart, as they use horse-back riding to facilitate rehabilitation for youth and adults of different abilities, troubled youth and disabled veterans.
Scott Alexander McRae is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Danielson McRae; his son Alexander Scott McRae; his stepdaughter Brooke Mackey Jones (husband Patrick), who has two children, Gavan and Lilli; his brother, Roland Lacy McRae, Jr. (Chip); nephew Beau McRae; niece Kady Moehring (husband Joe); grandnephews Thomas and Tyler; his sister Deborah Scott McRae Sanders (husband Bud); nieces Sarah Hagedorn (husband Steve); Erin Altschule (husband Joshua); grandniece Sasha; and Karen’s adult children Melinda Danielson Fleming, Greg Danielson and Drew Danielson.
