Obituary for Scott Lee Balderson Scott Lee Balderson, age 66, died on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Regional Health Rapid City Hospital. He was born on January 23, 1952 at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois to Tennyson Carlyle Balderson and Darlene Joann Balderson (Byrd) and was the second of their three sons. Robert Carlyle Balderson was the eldest, and Brad Allen Balderson was the youngest.
Darlene later re-married (Henry Meza) and Joann Candace Meza became the youngest of her four children. Scott’s father was re-married to Karen Balderson (Shockey) and they did not have children together. Scott had three children.
He had his first son, Jeremy Scott Balderson, with his first wife, Betsy Balderson (Theriault). He had his daughter, Sarah Janice Balderson (now named Sarah Renee Wolfe) and his second son, Robert Scott Balderson, with his second wife, Janice Lee Balderson (Voy). Scott was an avid, brilliant guitar player from a young age, and he passed his musical and creative gifts to his sons and daughter who have all enjoyed a shared love of and talents in music, theater, and art.
Although Scott was not actively involved in the raising of his children, he was well-loved and considered family to his close friends, Gerald and Rachel “Bud” Fox. After the passing of Gerald, Scott became Bud’s beloved caregiver until she passed away in 2015. Scott is survived by his spouse, siblings, children, and three grandchildren: Robert’s daughter, Maia Balderson, and Sarah’s sons, Jacob Wolfe and Andrew Wolfe.
Scott’s daughter, Sarah, and her partner, Jim, were at his bedside when he passed. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sioux Funeral Home, 340 Oglala Ave, Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rapid City.
Sarah would like to extend her most heartfelt thanks to Della Rae Foolish Bear and her family for their generosity and kind attention to her father in his last years and for attending to his final affairs and resting place. “No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn’t know it”.
