SMITH, Scottie, age 60, passed away unexpectedly May 4, 2018 in Silver Springs, MD. He was born November 27, 1957 in Dayton, Ohio and later, he moved to Columbus, Ohio and graduated from East High School in 1976. He joined the United States Army where he served 2 terms from 1977-1987, was Honorably discharged and moved to Washington, D.C. In 1988, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Maryland School of Optometry.

He retired from the United States Post Office in 2004. Scottie loved all types of animals. There was not an animal that he did not love.

He had Eels, Snakes, Fish (Oscar), and Dogs (Boxers—his favorite named Beef). He was an avid fisherman, and a collector of sports memorabilia. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Frankie Smith; siblings, Dan Jr., Jessie, Otis and Johnny Smith, Annette Hobdy.

He leaves to cherish his memories his brothers, Clark (Sylvia) of Columbus, OH, David (Diane) of Dayton, and Jimmy Lee (Wilma) of Springfield, OH; sisters, Mary Smith, Elaine Smith and Evangelist Judy and Elder (Jack) Williams of Atlanta GA; beloved dog, Lala; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 12:30 pm Monday, May 21, 2018 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Visitation 10 am-12:30 pm.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Special thanks to the Church family of Pastor, Overseer Kevin R. Richardson of Hope Fellowship Church, Suitland, MD for their support in this time of need.
