Settimio “Sam” Travaglino, 88, of Edgeworth formerly of Steubenville, OH, passed peacefully at home with his family present on Monday, January 7, 2019. He was born in Belmonte Calabro, Italy on September 1, 1930 to the late Saverio and Angela (Magnone) Travaglino. Beloved wife for 60 years to Erminia (Pinacchio) Travaglino; loving father of Rhonda Travaglino Parda (David) of Sewickley, Sandra Travaglino of Seminole, FL and Saverio “Sammy” Travaglino (Christine) of Pittsburgh; cherished “Nonno” of Andrew, Maeghan, Dylan, Michael and Sofia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Egidio Travaglino, Alberto Travaglino, Idora Provenzano, Ida Marano, and Flora Carissimi. Sam was a member of St. James Church, Sewickley and Columbus Club, Italian American Culture Club and the Elks all in Steubenville, Ohio. At the age of 10, Sam began learning his life-work as a tailor in Italy.

When he came to the United States at the age of 18, he was an accomplished craftsman working for other tailors. In his early 20’s, he opened Travaglino Tailor and Tuxedo Rentals in Steubenville, OH with his father and sister as his staff. He ran a successful family business.

For relaxation, Sam enjoyed watching soccer. He was a sports fan and cultivated a love for baseball and football. His favorite player was Rocky Colavito for the Cleveland Indians.

It was not unusual to have Sam sitting on the glider watching a game on TV and listening to another on the radio. Sam loved to dance and danced through life with his beloved wife, along with teaching his children to dance the jitter-bug, the waltz, the Tango and the Cha-Cha. Family beach vacations were enjoyed yearly to Atlantic City, NJ .

Sam took great pride in his gardening, especially his 70 tomato plants which he generously gave to his many neighbors. Sam loved people and most of all, loved his family. Visitation Thursday 4-9 PM at Copeland’s Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. where prayers will be recited on Friday at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10 AM at St. James Church.

Rev. James Farnan celebrant. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
