OBITUARY Sharon Kaye McKOY February 1, 1942 – July 27, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon Kaye (Hinton) McKoy, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, share her unexpected passing on July 27, 2018 at the age of 76. Sharon will be forever remembered and missed by her best friend and loving husband of nearly 58 years John, their two daughters Elizabeth Anne and Jennifer Lynne (Keith), grandchildren Jessica (Matt), Leslie (Sean), Billy, Kevin, Nicholas and Nathan, great-grandchildren Cheyenne, Leighla, Charles and Adam, her sister Susie (Leroy) Barnes along with an extended family, friends and honorary children and grandchildren across various states. Sharon, known to her grandchildren as “Koy”, served “Koy coffee” and vanilla ice cream for breakfast.

Green ice cream (lime sherbet) could always be found in her freezer for a snack or dessert; as she said often, “there is always room for ice cream”. Sharon and John reminded their daughters regularly that grandchildren were meant to be spoiled and that all parental authority ended on their doorstep. Sharon attended East Central State College in Ada, OK where she met and married John.

Two daughters, three states and 13 years later she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Chapman College in Orange, CA completing her Master of Science in Education a few years later from California Lutheran College in Thousand Oaks, CA. As a resident of Lompoc, CA Sharon began her career as the Director of the Head Start program followed by over 20 years as an elementary school and special education teacher for the Lompoc Unified School District. Additionally, Sharon was very active in the Booster Club at Lompoc High School.

Sharon enjoyed being a member of the Miguelito Chapter #176 Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron in 1988 and again in 1993. After relocating to Sun Lakes, AZ in 1998, Sharon continued to dedicate countless volunteer hours to various organizations which included: President, VP, Uniform Committee head and Thrift Shop Manager for the Assistance League of East Valley for 14 years, President of the Ladies Golf Association for Palo Verde and member for 16 years, 8 years as a volunteer for Angels Spring Training, 6 years as a Sun Lakes Posse volunteer, 3 years as a church office volunteer for the Sun Lakes Methodist Church and she served on the CWPV Architectural compliance committee for 3 years as well as the election committee secretary for 2 years. Those who knew Sharon knew that these were just a few of the organizations near and dear to her heart.

Sharon was recognized as a 2018 Crystal Award Honoree on March 11, 2018 for her contributions towards “making the community a better place to live”. Truly an angel here on earth, she has earned her wings in heaven. Sharon has been reunited with her parents Pete and Cecil Hinton of Shawnee, OK.

In lieu of flowers, Sharon’s family would like to request that you volunteer your time. Plans for a celebration of Sharon’s life will be shared at a later date.
