OBITUARY Shawn Richard Tracey August 21, 1965 – November 17, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Sadly and much too soon, God wrote the final verse of Shawn’s life, and he passed away at the age of 53. Shawn used to say that his music writing kept him close to God and we are consoled that he is now with his Savior. Shawn is survived by his loving son Aaron, devoted partner Sandy and her loving daughters Elizabeth and Jacquelyn.
He considered Barb and Jim his mother and brother in law. Shawn was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Grace Tracey. Canadian relatives include cousins: Nancy, Wendy and Darlene.
A brief (but incomplete) list of close friends include: Greg, John,Jim, Lew and Al. The colors green and white were near to Shawn’s heart as he was a diver at MSU. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and went into law enforcement.
He was a federal agent in the customs department working at metro airport, the Ambassador bridge, the railroad and other points of entry. He also worked with troubled youths during his early career. It seemed that Shawn could fix almost anything and spent many years working in construction, home remodeling and exterior house painting.
He was especially proud to have painted many historic homes on Ann Arbor’s Old West Side. Most important to Shawn was his music writing and his band Gods Country. He recorded in Nashville his songs “God’s Country” and “The Gift”.
He received a top 10 nomination for best new Christian Country Artist of the year including a ceremony at the Grand Ole Opry. His song “God’s Country” reached #24 on the charts and appealed to both Christian and Secular listeners. He also enjoyed performing at Support the Troop rallies through a partnership with the Vietnam Veterans Association.
Volunteerism and his love of sports were combined by his coaching of Aaron’s baseball teams. Also, he and close friend John were stadium announcers for Dexter JV and freshman football games. Shawn loved the outdoors and was a hunter and fisherman.
He and Aaron spent many years on Stone Ledge Lake at their family cottage. Salmon fishing was his latest passion. He fished the last two fall seasons at a dam in Benzie County with Aaron and friends.
We, his adoring family, wish to sincerely thank his exceptional health care teams including Dr. Tareq Al Baghdadi MD, Dr. Julie Soriano MD, Chelsea Cancer Care and Great Lakes Hospice.
