Sherry Sauer Pugmire returned to her Heavenly Home on July 14th, 2018. She was born September 20, 1947 to Mildred and Doane Sauer in Rigby, Idaho. Sherry spent her formative years south of Butte in Melrose, Montana.
Their family of 6 girls moved to Seattle, Washington during her senior year of high school. A year after graduating from Chief Sealth high school, she met the love of her life, Max LaMonte Pugmire. They were married March 5, 1966 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, Temple.
Sherry and Monte have also lived in Mississippi, Utah, Kansas, Uruguay, ultimately settling down in Fairview, Utah. Raising a family is what Sherry did best. She spent her time attending her children’s soccer matches, basketball games, concerts, and plays.
Her voice could easily be heard above the crowd, supporting her children and their teammates. She was a master scheduler and top class chauffeur. Due to the large amount of family activity, she had a gift for making delicious meals for her large family out of limited ingredients and time.
Sherry earned a degree in Nursing from Salt Lake Community College near the age of forty. She spent 25 years in pain management, and high risk labor and delivery. She cared for each newborn as if it were her own.
Her large family helped prepare her for a lifetime of volunteer service. She served in multiple Primary and Relief Society presidencies, ultimately becoming the president of each respective organization. She traveled with the medical support organization Helping Hands for Haiti.
She became the medical advisor to two LDS missions in Montevideo, Uruguay as well as the Missionary Training Center in nearby Buenos Aires, Argentina. Assisting others was a personal ministry for her. Sherry’s greatest passion was a family gathering.
The-more-the-merrier was always the theme to a Sherry gathering. Reunions were revered occasions and she cherished being with her five sisters to tell stories and share memories. She loved having her children and grandchildren surrounding her.
She always had the best snacks and an activity for everyone to do. In her final hours, her only request was that the family get together. She conserved her last breaths, saving them to make sure she had enough to hug her husband, five sisters, five children and their spouses, twenty-five grandchildren and her only great grandchild.
Family togetherness was her primary concern in life and will continue to be so forever. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Monte, children Gary (Teresa), Jeff (Kathryn), Eric (Chris), Laurie Nelson (Cody), Scott (Tami), sisters Leslie, Karen, Julie, Jody, Wendy, 25 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
