Shirley was born in Wyandotte, MI the daughter of Leon and Viola May (Bosman) Shoemaker. She worked as a Secretary in the public school system for Plainwell, Comstock and Tecumseh schools.

On October 20, 1960 she married her husband Harold “Tom” McGovern who preceded her in death on June 7, 2012, also preceding are brothers; Lenoard and Arnie Shoemaker, and a sister; Arlene Pfeiffer. Surviving are their children; Susan (Michael) Barcikoski, Lauri (Clark) Rodgers, and Erin (Jack) Sopjes, grandchildren; Chelsea and Parker Barcikoski, Quinn, Landon, and Konnor Rodgers, Brandon, Bailey, and Jordan Sopjes, also surviving are a brother; Harold (Pat) Shoemaker, sisters; Marion Forsman, and Rani Manhard, sister-in-laws; Jacki and Jan Shoemaker, brother-in-law; Ralph Pfeiffer along with several nieces and nephews. Shirley loved gardening, canning, traveling and her friends.

She was Treasurer at Weatherstone Community and Community Garden & Entertainment Chairperson. Friends will be received at Parchment Redmond Funeral Home 2300 East G Ave. Parchment, MI 49004 on Tuesday January 22, 2019 from 2 to 6 pm.

Funeral Services with Fr. James Richardson will be Wednesday January 23, 2019 at 11:00 am with a luncheon starting at 1:00 pm at Weatherstone Farms Community Club House 5210 Marsh Arbor Trail, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Interment will be at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements made by Parchment Redmond Funeral Home 2300 East G Ave. Parchment, MI 49004.
