Shirley Ann Miller – Ostrander Shirley Ann Miller of Ostrander, a bank employee, dairy farmer, medical secretary and Mother died Sunday (Dec. 9, 2018) at the age of 83 in Rochester. She is survived by two sons, David (Suzanne) of Mahomet, IL and Daniel of Spring Valley; three daughters, Donna (Craig) Springer of Rochester, Julie Yost-Minnich (Jay) and Carrie Boerger (CJ) of Stewartville, fifteen grandchildren; and one brother, Joseph Langlie (Judy) of LeRoy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick B. Miller and son-in-law, Neil Yost. Shirley Ann Miller was born August 7, 1935 in Ostrander, MN and graduated as Valedictorian from Spring Valley High School in 1953. Prior to and following graduation, she was employed by Osterud Agency in Spring Valley and then the Ostrander State Bank.

During the ensuing 40 years, she was also employed by Home Federal Savings and Loan (Osterud Agency) in Spring Valley in addition to Ostrander State Bank. She completed the Medical Secretary coursework from Rochester Technical College and subsequently worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at St Mary’s Hospital. On June 19, 1959, she married Frederick B. (Fritz) Miller at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ostrander.

They resided for two years in Ostrander before purchasing a dairy farm near Ostrander where she lived until relocating in 2013 to Madonna Towers in Rochester, MN, her residence until her death. In addition to her employment off the farm, she was instrumental in the farm operation, feeding calves and milking frequently. She welcomed farm employees with hearty meals.

She was a loving mother to five children and doted on her grandchildren in her later years. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander, a member of Ladies Aid, a teacher in Sunday School and a willing volunteer when needed. She loved biking walking, music and good laughter.

She will be missed deeply by family and friends. The family extends a deep appreciation for the kindness and caring community of Madonna Towers, Rochester, MN. The funeral for Shirley Ann Miller will be at 2pm on Thursday, December 13 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander with Revs.

Bakker and Heidorn officiating. Burial will be at the Ostrander Cemetery. Friends may call from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, December 12 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and one hour before the service at the church.
