She passed away February 25, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones at the Meadows in Salmon, Idaho. She was the oldest of 5 children born to Cliff and Nancy Cummings.
She met Dan Walker in the spring of 1958 at Cummings Lake. After a whirlwind romance, they were married in Arco, Idaho on July 24, 1958. They were blessed with 3 children.
They spent 54 years together until Dan passed away in 2012. Mexico was a favorite place for them. They had a place on the beach called La Jolla below Ensenada where they would spend many vacations with family and friends fishing and enjoying the beach.
Shirley and Dan lived in many different states wherever Dan’s logging work would take them. She loved exploring the different areas they were in and the car would automatically stop at all yard sales. Shirley was a collector; if you needed anything she could help you out.
. sometimes with 2 or 3 choices. She came by it honestly; just ask any of her family.
Shirley worked at Steele Memorial in the kitchen for 22 years. She developed many friendships and was always there with a smile and a cookie. Shirley was a very kind soul that volunteered for many different organizations over the years.
Some of her favorites included Salmon Hospice, Salmon Public library, Christmas is Sharing, the Museum and the Historical Society. If she knew of a need, whether it was the Senior Center or kids that needed a Christmas, she found a way to help. Shirley lived for her grandkids and each and every one was special to her and she thought they were the best.
She was always involved and went to all of their activities whether it was sports, 4-H or just hanging out. In her later years, she and her friend, Jim Campbell, would travel to Arizona and California enjoying the warm winter sunshine. She would spend lots of time with her sister, Sherrie, sharing memories and creating new ones.
Shirley was a Christian woman. She loved the Lord and made sure her family knew Jesus. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Walker; her parents, Cliff and Nancy Cummings; her sister, Kathy Meyers and her sister-in-law, Linda Cummings.
She is survived by her children Jeanne (Bruce) Withers, Daniel (Stacey) Walker and Beth (Sam) Miller; her companion, Jim Campbell; her sister, Sherrie (Ron) Auen; brothers Cliff (Becky) Cummings and Jon (Nancy) Cummings; grandchildren Christopher Walker, Kyle Rhodes, Caleb Walker, Kayla Chappell, Jennifer Miller, Cameron Withers, Patrick Withers and nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held at the North Fork Community Church on Monday, March 4th, 2019 at 11:00 am.
