Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was the glue that held her family together and was adored by them all. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A consummate homemaker, she enjoyed baking, sewing, re-upholstering furniture, gardening, playing cards and socializing with family and friends, playing volleyball and doing step aerobics with Jane Fonda tapes, Saturday lunch at Solly’s and Sunday brunch at the Wooden Goose. Although a homebody, she loved her annual family vacations on Dam Lake; visits with relatives in Minneapolis, Corpus Christi and Birchwood, WI; annual Lutefisk dinners in Mount Horeb, WI; and a visit to her grandparents’ birthplace in Norway. Honored by St. Eugene for her many years of volunteering in the school library.
Beloved by the neighborhood children to whom she was always willing to lend an ear. Blessed with an amazing work ethic and incredible energy, she worked as a waitress at the Town Club for 37 years, retiring at the age of 90. Many thanks to Marc for his devoted care of Shirley during the three and a half years since John passed, and to Bonnie for helping care for her the last year and a half.
Much gratitude and heart-felt thanks to the many kind and compassionate caregivers at Aurora Hospital-Grafton, Milwaukee Catholic Home, Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital-Milwaukee and Horizon Hospice-Lawlis Center-Mequon, who cared for her during the final seven weeks of her life. Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 12, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, corner of North Port Washington and West Calumet Road in Fox Point, followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at Noon.
