Shirley Lickteig April 26, 1923 – February 25, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Shirley Marie Lickteig passed away peacefully Monday, February 25, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ellen Higgie was born on April 26, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduation from high School Shirley became a bookkeeper for the Steven’s Hotel.

After marrying her husband and moving to Austin Minnesota, she became an office manager for the Golden Dairy where she had a pint of ice cream every day for lunch. Her favorite flavor was Butter Pecan. Shirley lived a life of Catholic service.

She served her community in many volunteer roles. She was the President of the Winona Council of Catholic Women and received the Pro Ecclesia medal from Pope Paul VI. Her dedication to the church and commitment to Catholic life was eminent in the raising of her children as well as her almost 60 years of marriage.

Shirley’s interests included golf, bridge and flying her airplane. Shirley did her first solo flight on February 20th, 1962, the same day John Glenn first circled the earth. Shirley enjoyed a good night on the town, socializing with a cocktail of VO, soda and a twist, dancing at the Terp ballroom, playing cards or cooking for friends and family.

Shirley’s flare for a good animal print, sparkly jewelry or fashionable purse made shopping with her lively. She lived each day giving to those she encountered. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lickteig as well as her sister Margie and older brother Jack.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, son Thomas Lickteig and daughter Mary Pickard, 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Rachael, Sarah and Ursula and her 10 great grandchildren, Briggs, Jacob, Joe, Zach, Addy, Dylan, Betsy, Bernie, Archer and Winston. Memorials may be made to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, 225 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611. Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd.
