Shirley Smith, age 84, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in St. George, Utah on Saturday, November 3, 2018. She was born February 10, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George and Margaret Betsy Riley Majors. On August 19, 1955 she married James Monroe Smith in Henderson, Nevada.

They were later sealed in the Las Vegas LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2004. Shirley grew up in Moroni, Utah.

After meeting her Army Sweetheart, Jim, they raised their family in Las Vegas, Nevada before retiring to Overton, Nevada in 1987. Shirley loved being a homemaker, sewing, quilting and helping Jim with projects. She loved her service in the church, working in the Primary with the children and later serving in the Temple.

She will be remembered for her quick wit and sassy disposition. Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Robin (Karen) Smith of Clinton, UT; Tammy (Chris) Clark of Las Vegas, NV; Albert (De) Smith of Logandale, NV; Jolene (Tom) VanAusdal of St. George, UT; 22 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one sister, Bette C. Briggs and two brothers, Warren Majors and Byron Majors. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Chryl Ann and one grandson, Garrett Smith and one great-grandson Remington Smith.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Overton 1st Ward Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 10 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery.
