Signe Gretchen Langlie passed away, Saturday, March 23, 2019. Gretchen was born at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis on May 13, 1937. She was the only child of Arthur and Signora (Norman) Johnson.

She graduated from North High in Minneapolis in 1955, attended St. Olaf College for two years, and received a BS Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota in 1959. In 1959, Gretchen married Stephen Lloyd Langlie at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This July would have been Gretchen and Stephen’s sixtieth wedding anniversary.

Gretchen taught fifth grade in the Robbinsdale School District in 1959, did substitute teaching in the Anoka-Hennepin District and later in Forest Lake. Gretchen taught fifth grade for twenty-two years at Lakeside School in Chisago City. She retired in 1999.

Gretchen and Stephen loved to dance. Gretchen spent much of her time taking care of and photographing birds, including many years monitoring the bluebirds. Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and many beloved cousins and aunts and uncles.

Gretchen is survived by her children, Nathan (Leeann) Langlie and Laura Langlie; two grandchildren, Marissa and Ryan Langlie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 25402 Itasca Avenue, Forest Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota, will follow that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church and the Bluebird Recovery Program of Minnesota (bbrp.org).
