Simon “Sy” Wynboom Surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2018 after a hard fought battle with complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Sy was born September 20, 1937 to the late Martin and Francis (Verheyen) Wynboom in the Town of Vandenbroek. The second of five sons, Sy was born and grew up at the Cedar Locks, Little Chute.

There he spent his childhood fishing and hunting, along the Fox River and helping his father with lock tending duties. He also was known to catch a boat ride through the lock to his grandparent’s house in Little Rapids. Sy began his career working as an apprentice though Altergott Plumbing, and soon earned his Journeyman Steamfitter and then Master of Plumbing license.

Sy was a long time member and leader in the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 400. He enjoyed his work, and the people he worked with not only at Altergott’s, but also many years with August Winters, Azco, and Piping Services. He was a member of the Army Reserves where he proudly served for 8 years.

He was married to Rose Ann Van Eyck on October 18, 1958. They lived in and raised their 2 daughters in Little Chute and were lifelong members at St. John Nepomucene Church. They were both so proud to have celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past October.

He is survived by his wife Rose Ann, two daughters, Kathy (Cory) Suski, Amherst, and Stacey (Tim) De Groot, Combined Locks, six grandchildren: Kayla (Eric) LeBlanc, Abigail (Tanner) Vanden Heuvel, Jack Simon De Groot, Julia De Groot, Alison Suski, Eric Suski, five great-grandchildren: Elena, Asher, Noelle, Piper, Arlo, brothers: Martin (Diane) Wynboom, Combined Locks, brothers-in-law: Richard (Faye) Van Eyck, Kimberly, Bob (Grace) Van Eyck, Appleton, Tom (Lu Ann) Vander Wielen, Kimberly, Dave (Margo) Van Eyck, Appleton, Sister-in-Law Sherry Wynboom, Appleton, Sue Van Eyck, California, and far too many good friends to list. Along with his parents, Sy was preceded in death by his brothers: Kenneth Wynboom, Richard “Dick” Wynboom, and James Wynboom, Brothers-in-Law: James Van Eyck, and Merlin Olson, Sisters-in-law: Carol Wynboom, Joyce Van Eyck, Anna Mae Olson, Margaret Vander Wielen, Mary Lou Van Eyck, and a special Niece: Emberly Verhagen. Visitation will be held at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home LITTLE CHUTE Location, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute, on December 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends and family may also visit Friday, December 14,, 2018, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.

He had met and made so many friends throughout his lifetime, rarely did he go anywhere that he wasn’t noticed with a “Hi Sy! ”. He was a hard worker, and has earned much respect from the people he worked with – who more often than not will say how much they have learned from his great teaching and example.

Dad, what will we do without you? We are surely going to miss your smile, laugh, guidance, and the way you would put that eyebrow up at us when you didn’t want to tell us we were wrong about something – but we knew. You will be missed more than words can express.
