S.L.’s Obituary MARYVILLE, TENN. – S.L. “Pop” Givens, age 100, of Maryville, Tenn. , peacefully entered the glory of heaven on January 10, 2019.

Born on June 14, 1918 and raised in Uniontown, Alabama, S.L. was a World War II Navy Veteran and a 35 year employee of B.F. Goodrich in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a master woodcraftsman, reciter of scripture and poetry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Christine Gibson Givens; and son, Henry.

He is survived by: sons, Roger (Beth) of Maryville, Tenn. , Carl (Vivan) of Davidson, N.C. and Dale (Charlene) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. ; daughter-in-law, Catherine of Gulf Breeze, Fla.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. At S.L’s. request, a graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be held inside the funeral home.
