Stephen Wickes, of Middletown, NY, born November 23, 1924 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Florence and Stephen Wickes, raised by Marie and Arthur Merritt, passed away on May 26, 2019. He was married 71 years to Catherine Wickes, whom he met at Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY. She predeceased him on April 30, 2018.

He served in the First Army 9th Division in World War II, which fought in several major engagements in Northern France, Belgium, and Germany. After returning from Europe, he married his High School sweetheart, and they settled in Hyde Park where they were long-time residents with their children. He was an IBM employee who held several positions with the company over his long career.

Stephen was a dedicated employee and leader who had many colleagues who admired his work ethic and valued his friendship. He was also a tireless volunteer with the the Hyde Park Fire Department and youth league baseball. After retiring from IBM, Catherine and he moved to Cape Cod where they hosted friends and family at their home for many wonderful years.

They took great delight in watching their grandchildren enjoying the waves and sun on Cold Storage beach. He continued his lifelong tradition of service as an active member of the Dennis VFW. Stephen is survived by his children: Patricia (David), John (Christine), and David (Linda).

He loved his role as grandfather to Lauren (Reid), Mark (Keri), Megan (David), Katlin, John, Stephen (Allison), Timothy, Edward, and Robert, and as great grandfather to Adrian (Keri, Mark). A memorial service will be held in the Hudson Valley this summer. He will be interred at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Dutchess County, NY.

Catherine and Stephen are dearly missed by their family and will never be forgotten. Stephen was a supporter of the Honor Flight Network (www. honorflight.org), and the family would be grateful for any contributions made to this wonderful organization.
