Obituary of Steve A. Hickman Steve A. Hickman, age 61, of Dagsboro, DE and formerly of Millville passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, in the loving care of his wife and Delaware Hospice. He was born on May 3, 1957 in Lewes, DE to his late father, Robert Hickman, and his mother who survives him: Carolyn Bradford Hickman. He was a gentle, kind man who was devoted to his family, who touched the lives of many people.

Steve followed in his father’s example of being jolly, full of fun and just pleasant to be around. He was a 1975 graduate of Indian River High School, was a success in poultry farming with his father in the early years, and who volunteered with the Millville Fire Company, serving in the Rescue Squad. In 1978, he married Debbie Hammond, and together they raised a son, Ethan.

Steve went to work for Sus County, and retired after 33 years of service. He loved Ford cars, especially Mustangs, and when Sus County started naming roads, he convinced them to name his road “Mustang Road”. He restored a Farm All cub tractor, and enjoyed carrying his son on it as a youngster.

Steve was completely devoted to his son. Steve also loved the outdoors, and maintained his own greenhouse. Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie and his son, Ethan Lee Hickman (Dawn) of Dagsboro; and his mother: Carolyn Hickman.

He is also survived by his brother: Glenn Hickman, of Dagsboro; his mother-in-law: Annette Hammond; his nieces: Chelsea Bolen; and Nichole Marvel, and her fiancé, Spencer Sturla; and his nephew: Brandon Marvel (Amanda). The family sincerely wishes to express their gratitude to the River Church community for all their support and help during Steve’s illness. A funeral service and Celebration of His Life will be held at The River (Roxana Wesleyan Church) in Roxana on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM, where friends may call one hour prior for visitation with the family.

Rev. Mike Ennis will officiate. Interment follows at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, DE.

Flowers are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963. Electronic condolences to: www.
