Funeral Services for Steve J. Novak, 69, will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Friends will be received 2:00 – 4:00 PM before the service at the funeral home. Steve was born February 1, 1949 in Painesville to Steve and Margaret (Lyons) Novak.

He passed away December 26, 2018 in Cleveland. He was employed by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Star Beacon as a sports writer. Steve grew up in Painesville and attended St. Mary School, Cathedral Latin High School and he also attended John Carroll University.

He enjoyed following and watching the Cleveland Indians, and he also had a passion for writing and reading. He is survived by his sister, Mary (Guy) Dalton; nephews, Robert (Heather Vater) Burry and Brian Cunningham; great nephew, Aiden Burry and great niece, Alyssa Lawyer; former wife, Barbara Novak; numerous cousins; and his dog, Nate. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the Lake County Suicide Prevention Coalition, c/o Lake County ADAMHS Board, 1 Victoria Place, Ste 205, Painesville, Ohio 44077.
