Steven Obrebski, September 14, 1938 — December 20, 2018

Steven’s Obituary After battling esophageal cancer and Parkinson’s disease, Steven Obrebski succumbed peacefully December 20, 2018, in Port Angeles, Washington. Born in Warsaw Poland, in 1938, Steven immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1948. Steven earned biology degrees at Columbia College, New York, and the University of Chicago.

Since his undergraduate days, he was an active researcher of marine ecosystems in San Francisco and Tomales Bays, California. At the time of his retirement in 2004, he was Associate Scientist and Lecturer at the Estuary and Ocean Science Center (formerly Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies) of San Francisco State University. In 2001, he was recognized as an inspiring teacher based on undergraduate students’ reviews of general education courses at San Francisco State.

He was also much appreciated by students in the graduate degree program, to whom he was statistics and sample design consultant. Upon retiring to Port Angeles, Washington, he enrolled in French and Spanish language classes at the Port Townsend campus of Peninsula College. These classes were an important part of his social and intellectual life in retirement.

Steven was known for his keen intellect, generosity, integrity, irreverent sense of humor and charm. Surviving are his wife, Paula; and sister-in-law Sandra Rouverol. He will be sorely missed by the Rouverol nieces and nephews, to whom he was a steadfast presence.

Thanks to the kind medical teams at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, North Olympic Healthcare Network, Olympic Medical Home Health, and Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County. His oncology team at SCCA especially was solicitous of his comfort and well-being over a five-year period. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home is entrusted with his arrangements.
