Sue Diane Stibor was born on July 4, 1942 in Spokane, Washington to parents Stanley and Scynthia Olson. Her friends and those that know her call her “Susy”. She died on February 20, 2019 in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 76 years.
Susy was raised in the Spokane, Washington where she attended high school and lived throughout her twenties. It was around the age of 32 she came to Hermiston, Oregon with her son Stephen, when he was 7 years old. Susy lived in Umatilla, Oregon before finally finding her place to live out the remaining years of her life in Hermiston, Oregon.
Susy was united in her second marriage to John Stibor in 1988 in Hermiston, Oregon. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a friend to those she met and knew. Susy’s first marriage in 1960 at the age of 18 years old was to William “Bill” Learned in Spokane, Washington at the Presbyterian Church in Opportunity, Washington.
After being married for seven years they decided to adopt a baby boy who they named, Stephen. They later divorced around 1974, after 14 years of marriage. Susy has been a Christian for many years of her life.
She was a Seventh-day Adventist and Baptist, but more fundamentally she loved Jesus Christ and praises God for what He has done in changing her life. She was a very strong supporter for the Christian ministry of KOLU radio station in Tri-cities, Washington. She mentioned many times during our conversations the wonderful ministry and dedicated people serving the Riverview Baptist Church.
Susy had a love for horses, showing dogs in tournaments in her earlier years, and of course she “loved” her feline cats for companionship. She enjoyed spending time outside on the property in Hermiston. Susy often said to me that she believed God had spared her life many times to live just a little bit longer to share Jesus with others.
I admire my mom’s character, strength, determination, her work ethic and her Christian principles which now live on in me. In her last few words to me she shared, “Don’t forget the importance of loving your children”. I told my mother I was reading a book that embraced that same concept of “Filling up their love bucket”.
We can never overfill a child’s love bucket. Susy is survived by her only child; son: Stephen Learned, in Fletcher, North Carolina; grandchildren: Stephen and Samuel, a sister: Carol who we are not currently able to locate, but are still trying to bridge that communication. She was greatly loved and adored by all.
Susy was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) M. Learned and her parents. Those who wish may make a contribution in Susy’s memory to assist with her funeral services. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at The Irrigon, Oregon Seventh-day Adventist Church in Irrigon, Oregon.
