Obituary for Susan Broich Susan Broich, 98 of Carroll, died Sunday, August 5, 2018 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Gary Snyder officiating.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Willey. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Sue’s family at www.

sharpfuneral.com. Susan Catherine Broich was born on November 4, 1919 near Willey, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Balk) Broich. She grew up on a farm west of Willey where she attended St. Mary’s School.

After Susan graduated from St. Mary’s School, she made her home north of Carroll with her sister, Dorothy and her husband Lawrence (Shorty) Pudenz. During these years she helped her sister with her children and also other mothers in the area following the birth of a baby. Susan would cook, clean, and care for the children.

After the death of her sister, she moved into the Carroll community. She worked for several families doing housework until she retired in her 80’s. Susan loved caring for people and loved spending time with her own dogs.

She always treasured the time spent with her great nieces and nephews and great-great ones and the many card games they played. Susan later became a resident at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. While at St. Anthony’s she loved playing bingo, word puzzles, and crocheting.

Susan is survived by her niece, LuJean (Pudenz) and husband Alan Stork; she is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Dorothy (Lawrence) Pudenz, and Anna and Helen Broich; her brothers: Lawrence, John Jr., William, George, and Leo Broich; her nephews: Dennis (Ida) Pudenz, and Duane Pudenz; one niece, Lois (Joe) Anthofer.
