Susan Gail Brisendine March 17, 1950 – February 28, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Susan Gail Brisendine (Walden) was born on March 17, 1950 and died on February 28, 2019 after a long battle with Stage IV breast cancer; a reoccurrence from her original breast cancer diagnosis at age 33. Along her brave journey, she embraced life every day, kept strong in her faith, and enjoyed her children and grandchildren despite the daily challenges of chronic pain. She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Elvis & Flossie Walden, Carl & Pat Steinhauer, Anna Miller, and granddaughter, Jayden Nicole Brisendine.

Susan was born in Fresno, CA to parents: Bobby Neil Walden and Verna Mae Steinhauer. She primarily attended Fresno schools: Roeding Elementary, Cooper Jr. High, and Hoover High School with a short attendance at Turlock schools. She graduated from Reedley College and was employed as a Registered Dental Assistant for thirty years.

Returning to school in her late forties, she graduated sum laude from Fresno Pacific University with a degree in social work and an emphasis in grief therapy that lead her to her passionate work as a chaplain for Hinds Hospice. Susan coached and played soccer for several teams over a period of 10 years. She was an avid hiker; climbing both Mt.

Whitney and Mt. Rainer. She loved to travel and visited over 11 countries and many trips in CA, WA, and MT.

Susan is survived by her parents, Neil & Verna Walden of Fresno, a brother, David Walden of Tucson, AZ, sister and brother-in-law, Carol Eaton-Rowe & Randy Rowe of Fairfield, CA, a dear aunt, Laura James where she lived up until her move to the Hinds Hospice home, two sons and daughters-in-law: Blaine & Robin Brisendine from Lakeside, MT, Carl & Bonai Brisendine from Kalispell, MT. Susan was blessed with grandchildren giving her much joy and love: Erika, Erin, Caleb, Julia, Tatum, & Nathanial along with two nephews, Daniel & Eric Walden, a niece, Laura & Guy Brautigam, and three great nieces: Mackenzie & Aspen Brautigam and Orianna Walden. Special thanks go to the doctors, nurses, & supportive staff at Hinds Hospice, Dr. Dexter Estrada, Dr. Patrick Ginn, Dr. Salma Simjee, Dr. S.P. Dhillon, and Bill Phipps from Yost & Webb.

Memorial service to be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hinds Hospice of Fresno.
