Susan Kay Lindbloom, 62, of Poncha Springs died June 30, 2018, from an aggressive form of cancer. She and her twin sister, Sally Jo, were born June 20, 1956, in Fort Collins. They were Carl and Edna Lovell’s first children.
Susan arrived 20 minutes before Sally, so Susan was the “firstborn”. Less than a year later, a son, Lynn, was added to the family, and a year after that they moved to Cheyenne Wells. Mr. Lovell worked for the Soil Conservation Service, and after the three kids entered school, Mrs. Lovell taught elementary school.
Susan participated in church activities, 4-H Club, marching band and Tigerettes. The twins graduated with the class of 1974 from Cheyenne Wells High School. Susan was valedictorian.
They then moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University. During Susan’s college years she met her future husband and finished her degree in food science and nutrition. Shortly after, she found a job at a hospital in Salida.
Her boyfriend, Ken Lindbloom, lived in a town nearby and the couple began courting in earnest. They married on Feb. 14, 1981.
Mr. Lindbloom had remodeled a mountain cabin and the newlyweds moved there. His No. 1 hobby was hunting, and hers was tramping over the hills with him, enjoying the Colorado mountain scenery.
Mrs. Lindbloom also worked at United States Soil, the Colorado State University Extension office, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and Columbine Manor Care Center. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Kristen, in January 1992. In July 1997, they welcomed their second daughter, Kelsey.
Mrs. Lindbloom gave up her career to fully devote her time to being a mother. Family and friends said she was proud to watch her daughters grow and achieve life goals. As a family, they took frequent road trips across the United States and an international trip to Europe while the girls were still in school.
Mrs. Lindbloom devoted much time to vegetable gardens and flower beds. Family and friends said during the middle years of her life, her faith grew by leaps and bounds as she found Christian fellowship in a nearby church. She had memorized dozens of verses of God’s word.
She tried to “walk her talk,” and her family said many of her friends can attest to what a strong Christian woman she was and how much she helped them. At Christmas time she developed a slight cough but didn’t think much of it. Then, around May, Mrs. Lindbloom began to feel poorly and was admitted to the hospital.
Tests done there discovered an aggressive form of cancer. Survivors include her husband and daughters; brother-in-law and his family, the Gary Lindblooms; mother; twin sister and family, the Francis Jeffersons; brother and his family, the Lynn Lovells; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Upper Room Church of God, 1140 I St., Salida.
