Susan Willett Dawson passed away March 13, 2019 at the age of 67 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was blessed to have her loving and faithfully caring daughter Virginia at her side. Susan was the fifth child born to Thompson and Virginia (Sheehan) Willett on December 31, 1951.
Her siblings include Mary (Frank Fisher), Tommy, Martha (Even Kulsveen), John David, Richard and Alice (Dick Heaton). Susan is survived by Virginia’s father, Judge Thomas Clark Dawson. Susan energetically attended Bardstown High School and Western Kentucky.
She cherished memories of having fun with many friends including Dianne Knopp Lange, Marilee Short and her siblings. She loved Johnny Cash and met him at Flaherty’s in Louisville when there with Mary & Frank Fisher and Dianne. In later years, she had fun with all her friends at Beechwood in Cincinnati.
When out with friends, much of her fun-loving self would emerge. She was so well liked by staff and residents alike and she was good friends to many. She will be missed by the residents, including her friends Linda Orlich and Mary Ann Sawyer.
Susan was known by all to have a strong Catholic faith, a beautiful smile, wonderful deep laugh, great sense of humor, love for delicious food and enjoyed fun with friends and family. Susan was blessed to have a devoted son-in-law Davy Goff and three beautiful grandsons; Dawson, Andrew and Grant who all loved their Grandma. She spoke of them with love.
Susan’s best friend Marilee enjoyed spending so much time with her and will miss her dearly. Susan will also be deeply missed by her extended family. She was predeceased by her loving mother and father-in-laws June and Robert Randall Dawson.
She was very close to her sisters-in-laws including Phyllis Spalding, Mary Dawson and Ginger Martin. She also had fondness for her brother-in-laws including Frank Fisher, Even Kulsveen, Dick Heaton, Dan Martin, and Bob Dawson. Her nieces and nephews were very close to her.
Cece (Mat) Gerdenich, Jane (Scott) Thierauf, George Fisher (Barb Reilly), John(Gail) Fisher, Kate (Josh) Bradley, Britt Kulsveen, Drew (Janelle) Kulsveen, Jonathan (Lena) Heaton, Nicolas Heaton, Heidi (Chris) Covino, Daniel Martin, Whitney (Robbie) Collins, Elizabeth (Hunt) Chipley, Nancy (Adam) Jones. She also had many great nieces and nephews who spent time with her often and loved her very much. Susan died from complications of acute myeloid leukemia resulting from sarcoma diagnosed in December.
Susan lived resiliently with multiple sclerosis for decades. There will be a service at The Beechwood Home in Cincinnati on Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. Visitation will be on Friday, April 12 at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown from 4-7 p.m. with a Catholic mass on Saturday, April 13 at Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. Virginia would like to thank all the close friends and staff and with fondness, her nurse Sandy Midgett, at Beechwood and U.C. Hospital. Susan donated her body to the University of Cincinnati for research.
Contributions in Susan’s name may be made to The Beechwood Home in Cincinnati, 2140 Pogue Ave, 45208. The home is dedicated to serving those who have neurological diseases such as M.S. Donations may also be made in Susan’s name to the Kentucky-Southeast Indiana M.S. Society.
