She was born on April 28, 1938, in Windber, PA, to the late William Gillespie and Sarah Stutzman Gillespie. She is preceded in death by her beloved sister Shirley Gillespie and brother, James Gillespie, as well as the love of her life and husband Richard “Dick” Shaffer.

She was a wonderful mother to her children Mark, Bret, Krista and Todd, and to their spouses Bonnie, Kim, Eddie and Jarri. Through the years, she loved and cherished her eight grandchildren Melisa and Jay Shaffer, Allison Shaffer, Kara Barwick, Karson Fleet, Kelsey Moore, Kevin and Luke Shaffer. She loved spending her final months in NC, enjoying her great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Elizabeth Barwick.

She was their “Nana” and will remain a guiding angel in their lives forever. Suzi Shaffer enjoyed life to its fullest and meant the world to many friends and family; especially to her cousins, nephews and nieces. Friends will always remember the fun times at “Freddie’s Inn” that Dick and Suzi owned.

Suzi was beautiful inside and out, was faithful to her church and loved giving her gift of music and singing in church choirs wherever she lived. ; a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist, Windber, PA, Piney Grove Methodist, MD and First Presbyterian, NC. She often said that being a member of the Johnstown Choraleers were the best 20 years of her life.
