OBITUARY Sybil May McCarthy-Kovacs February 9, 1924 – November 16, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Sybil May McCarthy-Kovacs passed on November 16, 2018 at the age of 94. Sybil was born February 9, 1924 in Booths Point, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Ocie Earl Perry and Madge Wilma (Crosby), both deceased.

She had lived in Bowie, MD for the past 35 years. After retiring from Riggs National Bank as Senior Vice President in 1989, she was very active in her community. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and the many family gatherings over the years.

She also loved traveling and was President of a senior travel club in Bowie. She was a member of the Forest Memorial United Methodist Church in Forestville, MD. Sybil is survived by her children: Walter E. Shifler, Garland, TX; Patty G. (Shifler) Vandenberg, Bend, Oregon; Gary H. Shifler, Annapolis, MD; Dianne L. (Shifler) McMillan and spouse Danny, Alapaha, GA; Billy Steven Shifler and spouse Catherine, Montross, VA.

; Mike McCarthy and spouse Kiko, San Bernardino, CA; Kathy (McCarthy) Ray and spouse Terry. She was blessed with 19 Grandchildren (Tracy, Christie, Angie, Shelley, Pattie, Gary, Nikki, Ryan, Rachael, Kenny, Jeff, Ericka, Stephanie, Shannon, Amy, Ryan, Jason, Michelle, and Jill); 32 Great-grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Stephen Kovacs, 10 years married, passed 6/20/2011; Robert McCarthy, 31 years married, passed 3/9/1994; Hubert E. Shifler, 22 years married, passed 11/3/1985; and by her brothers Billy and Jerry Wayne Perry, her sisters Mary Martha (Perry) Winston and Juanita (Perry) Matthews and her granddaughter Shelley Ann (Shifler) Hall.

Arrangements: Visitation at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home in Bowie from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on November 26. Memorial services will be held at the Forest Memorial United Methodist Church in Forestville, Md. on November 27 at 11:30 a.m. and Graveside services will be held at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on November 27.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sybil’s name to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer, Dept. 41831, P.O. 650309, Dallas, TX 75265, Tax Status: 501 (c) 3.
