Sylvan McAffee Andersen passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 in Moreno Valley California at the age of 89 years old. He is survived by his wife Sandi, sons Wayne, David, Steve and Neil, stepdaughter Bonnie Sanchez, brother John Andersen of Idaho Falls Idaho and Sister Erma Monk of Rigby Idaho, 25 grandchildren, 36 great – grandchildren and one on the way. Mr. Andersen was born in Moore, Butte, Idaho to Sylvan Eugene Andersen and Bessie Mae McAffee, June 26, 1929.
The family moved from Moore to the Snake River area of Idaho in 1937 and farmed, an occupation Sylvan dearly loved. He would rather be on his dad’s tractor than playing baseball. He lived in Idaho until he served a mission for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – Day Saints in the Texas Louisiana Mission 1949 – 1951.
He was drafted into the United States Army February 1952. While at Camp Roberts, California, he met and married Amelia C. Barrett. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple, October 15, 1952.
Sylvan was always a speedy courter. Amelia was the mother of his four sons. They moved to Covina in 1960, where the weather was so much better for her health than Idaho.
Amelia passed away February 22, 1986. Sylvan started his welding business in Fullerton, California in 1964. This business, with his sons has grown immensely.
They moved it from Fullerton, to Pomona, to Fontana and has been in Adelanto, California since 1991. On May 21,1994 he married Sandra L. Wells in the Los Angeles Temple. They served a Senior Mission for the Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints 2003-2004, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
After their mission, while thy were waiting to go home in Beijing China, Sylvan suffered a debilitating stroke. Although it left damage to his left side, he worked constantly to improve his strength. He never gave up hope.
After 21 years in Hesperia CA, he and Sandi moved to Moreno Valley, CA in 2013. The warmer winters and his two little dogs helped him a lot. He lived the gospel of Jesus Christ.
You knew it in his testimony, his good service and his willingness to share the gospel. Even while in the hospital those many times he passed out copies of the Book of Mormons and LDS pass-along cards. He was always ready for a good joke, during which he laughed the hardest.
