It is with a heavy heart that the family of Sylvia Lidia Alvarez-Martinez, announce her passing after an extensive battle with heart disease, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Sylvia was born on January 28,1963 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Rogelio and Maria de Jesus. She helped raise her siblings after mothers’ passing in 1980.

She was a nurse in Nuevo Laredo then made her move in 1989 to Houston with husband and children; She was a caregiver, fighter, lover and her family was her life. She loved to feed everyone who walked through her door. She was generous, caring, adventurous, funny and had temper like no other!

She was very outspoken and very independent. She was the mom everyone wanted; The grandmother everyone loved; The sister everyone admired, and friend everyone needed. Sylvia is survived by her husband of 38 years: Johnny Martinez.

their children: Maria, Glenda, Alondra (Gabriel), Juan, Sylvia, Rogelio, and Ricardo. grandchildren: Ariel, Orlando, Nicole, Ronaldo, Jayleen, Juan, Gabriel, Angela, Christopher, Rolando, Janie, Alicia, Jasmine, Mikayla, Julissa, Sky, and Ethan (and many more that she cared for as her own) great grandchildren: Avianna and Xandric, her Father: Rogelio Alvarez, Her sisters: Maria Guadalupe, Patricia, Juana, Velia, Andrea, Aracely and brother, Jesus. She is proceeded in death by her mother Maria De Jesus Alvarez-Nunez, and brothers: Manuel, Rogelio & Vicente.
