Terrance’s Obituary TERRANCE MICHAEL DAVIS (TERRY) passed away May 1, 2019 at home in Tempe, Arizona with his beloved wife M. Katherine Davis and cherished son Matt Davis, at his side, after a courageous battle over many years with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Born April 17, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona from the age of ten. Terry graduated Brophy College Preparatory and Arizona State University, making many lifelong friends.
Meeting the love of his life during their college years, he and Kathy Keck married in 1973, and welcomed their son Matthew a few years later. Terry’s entire professional career was in community banking with a post graduate diploma from Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. After many years with The Arizona Bank, he joined WestAmerica Bank in Northern California in 1983.
He served National Bank of the Redwoods in Santa Rosa, California for ten years as SVP and Chief Credit Officer. Joining Summit Savings and Loan in 1998, Terry had a leadership role in its conversion to a commercial bank charter to Summit State Bank in 1999, and became its President in 2000. Terry led the effort to take the Bank public, including ringing the bell at the Stock Market on July 13, 2006, when the Initial Public Offering of stock was launched.
Terry was most proud of the Bank’s role as a community bank serving the needs of small businesses, non-profits and families throughout the region. Beyond his professional activities, Terry always served his communities as an active volunteer. In Arizona, he and his poker buddies kept the ASU Students’ Child Care Center going in ways that bring smiles to us all.
He was involved with United Way in both Phoenix and Sonoma County, and was a Board member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, President of Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, Board member of Volunteer Center of Sonoma County for 24 years, Trustee for the Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, Board Member of Center for Climate Protection, Friends of Petaluma Campus of Santa Rosa Junior College, and Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Appointee to the Health Action Council. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scout Council, Cardinal Newman, Green Building Program of Santa Rosa, Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force, Valley of the Moon Children’s Home and many other activities unknown and unnamed. He often said that work interfered with his non-profit work; he was the low key working volunteer behind the scenes.
His most important priority was family, beginning with his 5 siblings and their clans and later the Keck Family tribe. He treasured time with Matt and daughter-in-law Christine, and always stated that his efforts were about making this a better world for his precious grandchildren Quinn Avila Davis and Shane Nolan Davis. He was preceded into God’s arms by his loving parents Ann Masalskis Davis and John T. Davis and in-laws Mary and Milton Keck.
He is survived by his loving siblings Martin Davis and wife Toni, Barbara Davis, Daniel Davis, John T. Davis and wife Siobhan Roome, Kathy Ingalls and husband Don Ingalls. His crazy inlaws include Jeff Keck and wife Becky Keck, Jonna Paquette and husband Cap Pike, Fred Keck and wife Valerie Keck, and Milton Joseph Keck and wife Susan Keck. His cherished nieces and nephews include Jessica, Nick, Cory, Matthew, Kristen, Brian, David, Todd, Katie, Andrea, Alan and their families.
Terry was rich with lifelong friends, who along with family, have been so supportive of him throughout his lifetime and especially in the last few years. The many shared stories have brought much comfort and joy…he indeed had a wicked sense of humor and a generous and kind heart. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Hospice of the Valley Care Team, which enabled his family to care for him at home…they are doing true heart work.
His Celebration of Life Mass will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brophy College Prep Chapel, 4701 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. A reception will follow at The Watershed Lakehouse, 5350 S. Lakeshore Drive, Tempe, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
Terry would most want, however, for you to take someone you love out to dinner and tell them how much they mean to you…a Friday night date.
